In 2016, nearly one third of US shoppers used click & collect during the holiday season. In enabling retailers to deliver a seamless shopping experience for omnichannel consumers, click and collect has arguably been one of the most significant developments within the industry in recent years.

What is Click and Collect?

Click and collect technology enables shoppers to make their orders online and collect in-store. This service offers a way for retailers to connect their online and brick-and-mortar shopping channels, so that their customers can enjoy a seamless omnichannel shopping experience.

What are the Benefits of Click & Collect for the Customer?

From 2011 and 2015, click and collect sales grew 155% as a percentage of total online sales for multichannel retailers. So why are more and more customers turning to click and collect? Surveys have found that customers prefer to use the service for its speed, convenience and cost-effectiveness. In essence, click and collect combines the speed of offline shopping with the convenience of online shopping with the added bonus of no shipping fees!

What are the Benefits of Click & Collect for Retailers?

In addition to enhancing the omnichannel experience, click and collect has many advantages for retailers. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that it helps to drive in-store traffic. In fact, 49% of consumers are likely to purchase an additional item when picking up their online order. What’s more, the added temptation of impulse buys means that click & collect customers have an 11% higher basket value than home delivery shoppers.
